NEWS FLASH! I’ve received the publishing timeline from Washington State University Press, and they’re projecting a release date of March 1, 2020!
I read in Tristan Gooley’s How to Read Water (which is terrific, by the way) that there are 38 steps between the publisher’s acceptance of a manuscript and the book’s appearance on shelves. Only 38?! Although I’m still enjoying a sabbatical from writing, the editing and design process will soon gear up and we’ll enter the next phase of the project. I’ll keep you posted about progress and book pre-orders as I know more. Here’s this month’s image, which complements my story of accompanying the park’s spotted owl survey crew.
In the meantime, I’m preparing six Evergreen students for their summer internships at Mount Rainier. They’ll live and work on the mountain for 13 weeks, earn academic credit, learn a ton of new skills, and have the time of their lives. Three will work on the aquatics crew, taking water samples and doing amphibian surveys at alpine lakes. One will work on the revegetation crew, removing invasive plants and installing natives. Two others will staff the Paradise Wilderness Information Center, issuing climbing permits and patrolling the backcountry. And I get to tag along after all of them- what a deal!
